Los Angeles as the new « French Tech Hub »
The city of Los Angeles has recently been awarded the label of « French Tech Hub » by the Secretary of State in charge of Digital Technology and Innovation, Axelle Lemaire, along with Prime Minister Manuel Valls.
The 10 winners of the label have been considered mature enough to hoist the colors of French startups abroad by surrounding themselves with local private and public actors (entrepreneurs, investors, startups, incubators, accelerators…), with the goal of fostering the development of French startups locally.
LA’s Tech scene has been growing exponentially in the past few years. Not only is the Silicon Beach home to thousands of startups and has been classified 3rd largest startup ecosystem in 2015 by Compass, but it is also home to tech companies such as Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Hulu, and many more. LA also counts many unicorn companies such as Snapchat, JustFabulous, SpaceX, NantLife, Tinder, Sonos, and TrueCar, as well as many younger startups among which many French companies.
The emergence of this structured, active, and visible French Tech community in Los Angeles will continue to facilitate the entrance of newly established French startups in the Angeleno ecosystem, by helping them connect with French entrepreneurs who have been established in the city for a longer period of time.
French Tech Los Angeles
With the support of the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles, Business France, the Regional Economic Service of San Francisco, and in connection with France’s International Trade Advisors, the French Tech Los Angeles which has been boosted by the French American Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles, French Accelerator, and other leading figures of the Tech industry, has two main purposes:
- Help the French entrepreneurial community unite, and ensure its visibility within the business ecosystem of Los Angeles
- Help Angeleno actors understand the French ecosystem and find business partners to approach the French and European markets.
